Very low price for light allergies
This model is one of the most affordable air purifiers on the market; it is also very low-powered and is suitable only for users with light to moderate allergies. People with pet allergies will find relief this unit, but dust and pollen is not efficiently filtered through the unit’s non-HEPA filter. The Hamilton Beach 04383A is very compact and easy to fit into tight spaces in your home. It does not deodorize.
3 fan speeds
The Hamilton Beach 04383A offers three options for fan speed. Most people find that the noise level at the medium speed is fine for sleeping, though the noise level at max speed is definitely noticeable and may keep light sleepers up or distract you while working, though not while watching TV.
Suitable for small rooms
The Hamilton Beach 04383A is advertised as being suitable for medium sized rooms, but really it is only suited for small rooms under 160 square inches.
Not for deodorizing
The Hamilton Beach 04383A does not have a carbon filter, ozone feature, or ionizer; it will not remove most odors from your home. It is primarily for capturing larger air particles to improve air quality and allergies.
The Hamilton Beach 04383A stands at about 13.5 inches high and 6 inches wide, making it easy to fit on a shelf or into a tight space. It can also be used either vertically or horizontally, making it easy to maneuver in any room or area of your home.
The permanent filter means you will not have to purchase expensive filters throughout this model’s lifetime. You will have to be diligent about vacuuming the filter; it is recommended that you clean it at least once every three months; cleaning more often will help prolong its lifespan.
Whisper Mode is Silent
The Hamilton Beach 04383A is essentially silent when used in “whisper” mode, or the lowest setting. For very small rooms, this will be an adequate setting to improve the air quality. The medium setting is also very quiet and will not disrupt most sleepers or daily life.
Not a true HEPA filter
HEPA filters are regulated by the US Department of Energy and must remove particles as small as .3 microns with at least 99.97% accuracy in order to qualify as a HEPA filter. The Hamilton Beach 04383A removes particles as small as 3 microns. For reference, a human hair is about 200 microns. This gives it less purifying power than many purifiers that are slightly more expensive. It will effectively get rid of many larger allergens like pet hair and dust mites, but some dust, pollen, mold, and mildew will escape through this non-HEPA filter.
The Hamilton Beach 04383A lives up to its price point; its low cost is true to its general effectiveness as a purifier. That being said, it will improve air quality, especially in homes with pets where the main concern is getting rid of pet hair and dander. It will not help with odor in the home. It is quiet and compact, making it easy to fit into a small space. In short, it will help, but not as much as slightly more expensive units that include multiple filters or true HEPA filters.
