5 At-Home Laser Hair Removal Systems That Will Get You Bikini Ready
When you have unwanted hair on your body, life’s anything but a beach. In fact, you don’t want to go anywhere near a beach–or anyplace else during the summer season.
If you’re trying to get rid of it, waxing is too painful, and shaving is too time-consuming and happens too often. Many people turn to dermatologists for laser hair removal, but that can be expensive and take months to see real progress.
Enter the at-home laser hair removal systems. Results aren’t instantaneous, but they do come and they do last, and it’s at a fraction of the price of dermatologist visits.
The question is, which at-home system is best for you? Check out these five for some great options.
The first thing we noticed (and the thing we loved best) about the BoSidin Hair Removal System is that they tested it on 2,000 women before releasing it to the public. Safety is one of the most important things when it comes to skin, and we love knowing that this product is safe. It also comes with a skin contact sensor to prevent light from going to any area that you don’t want it to go as you’re zapping your hair.
BoSidin uses advanced technology to cool each area after the lasers have done their work, ensuring as painless an experience as possible. We also loved that it doesn’t need any refill cartridges; this system has 300,000 flashes, meaning it will last up to 15 years on full-body treatments or more than 30 on just smaller areas with very little device maintenance.
There were only two drawbacks for us. The first was that it doesn’t work on darker skin, from medium brown to black tones. Nor does it work on people with white, grey, red, or light blonde hair. Secondly, it only comes with two size adaptors. Other products come with up to four, making it really easy to reach areas of all different sizes fully.
BoSidin Painless Permanent Hair Removal
Our top pick. Uses "ice care technology" for painless and effective hair removal. Get the results your after in just eight weeks.
The technology that goes into the DEESS Series 3 is FDA-approved, a considerable standard to meet in the beauty industry. This system isn’t the only at-home laser removal kit to reach that goal, but at $140, it is one of the least expensive to achieve that status. It comes with a two-year warranty to protect your investment, and it promises 350,000 pulses over the life of the device, which makes it slightly longer-lasting than our top pick. A built-in sensor will detect and confirm your true skin tone color before you use it for the first time.
We also love that it has a UV-filtered light and that it has five different energy levels so you determine just how strong you want the light pulses to be.
One thing we weren’t crazy about was the length of time we have to wait for results. While most other devices promise that you’ll see full results in eight weeks, this one says that you’ll need need to treat for 12 weeks before you see the same results. We know it’s not a huge difference, but the idea of having to wait an extra month for the results when swimsuit season is quickly approaching isn’t very appealing. Like our top pick, it also doesn’t work on medium brown to black skin tones or white, gray, red, or light blonde hair.
DEESS Hair Removal System series 3 plus
Promises a 90% reduction in unwanted hair in 6-12 weeks, monthly maintenance treatments required after that.

SILKlike IPL Permanent Hair Removal System
The SILKlike comes at an excellent price (around $93), purports to last for 500,000 flashes, has five adjustable light settings, and boasts a one-year warranty. So many things to love! Overall if you’re looking for a basic hair removal system, this is a great first step.
What kept us from bumping this up to one of our top or runner-up picks is the size of the device. Compared to others, it’s quite bulky. While that doesn’t necessarily make it harder to hold, it can make it more difficult to effectively treat smaller areas like the creases in your armpit. That’s something consider as you don’t want to leave patches of hair anywhere when you’ve been working hard to be hair-free.
Philips Lumea BRI940 Prestige Hair Removal
So upfront, we’ll tell you that this is the highest-priced item on our list. It comes in at just under $500. Before you write it off just for that though, take a look at what you get for the price.
You’ll love the four separate attachments for treating your body, face, bikini, and armpits. Each attachment is designed to reach all the places and creases in each designated area. It’s got a two-year warranty, which was one of the higher ones on the products that we considered, and it promises 92% less hair after only three treatments. It’s also the only one on our list that treats all skin types and all hair colors, a HUGE bonus if you’re in the darker skin or lighter hair category.
What we didn’t love as much was the 250,000 pulses. Sure, that should be enough for you to get through the whole hair removal process, but when other less expensive devices have twice the number of pulses, it’s hard to overlook this shortened lifespan.
There’s a lot to love about the low-priced Misby Permanent Laser Hair Removal System. What initially caught our attention was the quartz lamp in the device. Other products use glass, which is more likely to irritate the skin than quartz. It’s light-leakage proof, allowing you to zap the hair from about 3/4 of an inch away from the skin to further protect you.
The Misby produces lasting results in nine treatments, assuming you’re doing two treatments/week for the first few weeks and one treatment per week in the following weeks. Finally, it uses FDA-Approved technology (only the second one on our list), and it promises to last through 600,000 pulses, the most of any on our list.
We’re not loving that, like many other products on the market and our list, it’s not suitable for people with medium brown to dark skin, or for people with white, gray, red, or blonde hair. We also wish it were a little less bulky in its form, and that it came with different attachments for different areas of the body. However, for the price, this product is difficult to beat.

Questions to Consider
How does laser hair removal work? It uses light-based energy to target hair follicles underneath the skin’s surface, reducing hair growth over time. It’s worth noting that although all of the products on this list claim to be hair removal systems, they’re not really eliminating all hair growth entirely, but rather just reducing it.
Is it painful? The process is not painful, but it may leave your skin tender or slightly red. Some users report that the effects mimic a sunburn that goes away after a few days.
How soon do you see results? Where waxing and shaving are immediate, laser removal takes several treatments before you start to see results, and several more before the results last.
Is it safe to do at home? Yes, it’s completely safe. These devices only use a very low level of energy and light to treat the hair, and it works specifically on targeted areas. There are no known long-term side effects from laser hair removal at this time, including no evidence of an increased risk of skin cancer. If you have any questions, consult with your dermatologist before using laser hair removal systems at home.
How often do you do the laser treatments? This will depend on which system you use, so be sure to consult the user’s manual of the device that you purchase before you start using it. However, as a rough estimate, most laser hair removal systems recommend treating once a week for 8-12 weeks.
Why won’t many of the systems work on people with dark skin or light hair? When it comes to skin color, that has to do with the large contrast between the pigment in hair and the pigment in skin that occurs in darker-skinned people. When it comes to hair color, that has to do with the smaller amounts of melanin found in lighter hair colors. Melanin is what absorbs the light that the laser uses, so having less melanin means the hair can’t absorb the light pulses as well.
An at-home laser hair removal system can be an investment, but it’s much cheaper than going to a dermatologist, and the results last a lot longer than waxing or shaving. If you’re willing to invest the time and money, an at-home laser hair removal system can be a purchase that lasts a long time with great results.
