The Toro 38381 (1800) Power Curve Snow Blow is designed for small snow clearing jobs. It has a capacity of 700 pounds per minute and can throw snow up to 25 feet. This is an improvement of the previous 12 Amp model the Toro 1500 which only had a capacity of 500. This larger brother has a snow clearing distance of 18” and a snow cut of 12 inches deep. It weighs 25 pounds and runs off a new larger 15 Amp electric motor.
What is it best suited for?
The Toro 1800 is best suited to snow clearing sidewalks, walkways and driveways that can park around 4 cars. Though now it has a beefed up 15 amp motor it is probably suited to all residential properties regardless of size.
The Toro 1800 is fitted out just like the 1500 and has the same easy to use controls that are intuitive for use with either hand. It also comes with an added zip deflector which can be adjusted so you can direct the snow to where you want it. There is also a chute lever which allows you to alter the chute angle and horizontal rotation from the rear handle.
How does it work?
The Toro 1800 is powered via a series wound 15 Amp electric motor which is optimized for high torque at low speeds. This is an improvement on its smaller brother the Toro 1500 which was slightly under powered at only 12 Amp. This new 15 Amp motor gives the snow thrower loads of power at the low end. The blower is able to shift an improved 700 lbs. of snow per minute in one pass. It manages this by clearing an 18 inch wide path and can cut 12 inch deep by using Power Curve technology that clears snow right down to the pavement. The Toro Curve system has curved rotors and an inverted funnel housing which shuffles up more snow in less time.
Is it easy to use?
The Toro 1800 is very easy to use due to its new innovative features such as its handle mounted controls on the ergonomically designed handle. There is also the new zip deflector which allows you to adjust and lock the angle of the snow ejector chute which facilitates accurate direction control so you can throw snow where you want too. Also at 25 pounds it is light enough to push on its large 6 inch rear wheels which gives it added maneuverability.
New improved motor
The new 15 Amp motor is a great improvement which rectifies one of the weak points of the Toro 1500
Easy to assemble
Quick easy assembly and no tools are required.
Durable and tough build
The Toro 1800 is build using very tough high impact composite plastic which makes it extremely durable and requires practically no maintenance.
Good design features
The Toro 1800 comes with some very good new features that make its operation easy and confortable to use. The compact 6 inch wheels make it easier to pivot when turning and the new handle design makes operation with either hand just as intuitive. The zip snow deflector which can be adjusted and locked to control the direction and distance for the ejected snow is a long overdue feature.
Activating the start and safety at the same time
It can be awkward especially when wearing gloves to activate both the start and the safety button simultaneously.
The Toro 1800 is an excellent machine for small, medium and large gardens and driveways.
